Lee Dyess

About Lee

Lee Dyess is a recording engineer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist best known as the owner and operator of Earthsound Recording in Valdosta, Georgia. A veteran of the Southeast music scene, Dyess has built a reputation for bringing emotional depth, precision, and musical insight to every project he works on.

Dyess’s musical journey began early. His mother bought him his first drum set around age ten, and by thirteen he was playing in bands and recording homemade demos with friends. His interest in sound and electronics led him to study electronics at Bainbridge College in the mid-1990s, but his passion for recording ultimately pulled him toward studio work full-time.

In February 1999, Dyess founded Earthsound Recording after relocating to Valdosta. What started as a haven for underground and DIY bands quickly grew into a respected regional studio with a wide range of national clients. His hands-on musicianship—he plays drums, bass, guitar, piano, and cello—gives him a unique ability to communicate with artists and help them shape their sound.

His engineering and production credits span genres and include both rising independent artists and established acts. Over the years he has worked with groups such as Mayday Parade, From First to Last, I Set My Friends On Fire, Against Me!, and many others, while still remaining deeply connected to the underground music community that supported him from the beginning.

Dyess sees music not only as a craft but as an emotional outlet—a place where artists can translate feeling into sound. His studio philosophy centers on authenticity, collaboration, and capturing performances that resonate on a human level. More than two decades after its founding, Earthsound Recording continues to be a creative hub in South Georgia, guided by Dyess’s dedication to honest music-making and his passion for helping artists realize their vision.
